Anamika
Sangam

Sangam was established in 1990 by Ashok Roy and the Australian Institute of Eastern Music as an eclectic music ensemble to explore possible fusions between North Indian classical music, various Western genres, and musics of other cultural origins. Over a number of years, many musicians, many styles and many ideas have passed through Sangam, all leaving something behind them in the pool of possibilities. Sangam has gradually settled into a stable and highly accomplished quintet, each member of which contributes something individual and unique.
Anamika represents a unique and compelling confluence of ideas from North Indian classical music, traditional and contemporary Japanese music, many Western forms including jazz and classical and much more. Moreover, this is a confluence that could only arise in the cultural milieu that is contemporary Australia, and as such Sangam constitutes a vital component of contemporary Australian music. Sangam now understands its role as setting an example for creative collaboration between many and highly varied musical cultures.
